PROCESS STEPS

Step 1: Prepare the written request along with all required documents.  

Step 2: Submit the written request to the National Directorate for Land Transport (DNTT)

Step 3: The request is then verified by the National Directorate for Land Transport (DNTT)

If the documents presented by the importer are in accordance with the vehicle's specifications and if the vehicle is in compliance with DNTT standards for use on public roads in Timor-Leste, DNTT will provide the license plates.

If the motor vehicle is not approved for use on public roads in Timor-Leste, DNTT will refuse to provide registration plates until the importer completes the modifications or changes in order to comply with the standards required by DNTT.

NOTES

1.  Vehicles imported for personal/private use or for company activities cannot be sold before a period of 5 (five) years. In the case of a sale or change of name before the specified period, the respective vehicle will be the subject of administrative proceedings and must be seized following the process.

2. If DNTT determines that the vehicle does not meet the necessary conditions for its registration and circulation on public roads in Timor-Leste, DNTT must notify the Customs Authority, which will seize the vehicle in question.

3. Fees are as follows: $54.50 Registration box for motorbikes, $97.50 for light vehicles and van, and $145 for heavy vehicles.
