REQUIRED DOCUMENTS 

1. Single Administrative Document (DAU)

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR VEHICLES IMPORTED BY A RESIDENT RETURNING TO TIMOR-LESTE

1. A passport or birth certificate proving that the would-be importer is at least seventeen years of age

2. A visa or other document issued by the Government proving that the would-be importer has resided outside Timor-Leste for a continuous period exceeding 12 months immediately prior to the person's return to permanently reside in Timor-Leste

3. Foreign registration documents for the motor vehicle or proof of purchase proving that the importer was the registered owner of the vehicle in the country where he temporarily resided, for a minimum period of twelve months immediately before his return to Timor-Leste

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR MOTOR VEHICLES IMPORTED UNDER INTERNATIONAL AGREEMENTS, NAMELY THE VIENNA CONVENTION, AND OTHERS DULY RATIFIED BY THE NATIONAL PARLIAMENT

1. The Bill of Lading for a vehicle in this situation must indicate the International Organization as the recipient of the vehicle. The International organization must also be able to provide other proof of the vehicle's ownership if requested

2. Franchise document issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Timor-Leste (Decree-Law No. 6/2007, of August 22)

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR VEHICLES DONATED TO CHARITIES, SUCH AS AMBULANCES, FIRE TRUCKS, TRAILERS, RESCUE VEHICLES, OR OTHER PUBLIC UTILITY VEHICLES

1. Prior opinion from the member of the Government responsible for social solidarity

2. Documentation identifying the vehicle, the name, address, and contact details of the donor, together with details of the entity to which the vehicle was donated

3. Identification of the intended purpose, humanitarian assistance, health or education, with an indication of the project

4.  Written evidence that the entity to which the vehicle was donated is registered as a Charity Institution in Timor-Leste (NGO). It is necessary to obtain a Registration Certificate issued by the Ministry of Justice, as well as a Tax Identification Number (NIF) issued by the Tax Authority

5. Negative debt certificate issued by the Tax Authority

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS VEHICLES IMPORTED FOR PERSONAL USE, CONSIDERED AS COLLECTION OBJECTS, AS LONG AS THEY ARE IMPORTED IN THE NAME OF THE INDIVIDUAL AND HAVE A BRAND DOCUMENT CERTIFYING THEM AS A COLLECTION

1. Importer identification document

2. Documentation that identifies the vehicle, stating its characteristics, as well as indicating the name of the owner

PROCESS STEPS

Step 1: Submit the Single Administrative Document (DAU) with the required documents according to the category to Timor-Leste Customs Authority

Step 2: The documents submitted are then evaluated by the Timor-Leste Customs Authority

Step 3: If approved then the imported vehicle is released 

NOTES

1. In the case of former residents over 17 years of age, after a period of 12 consecutive months living abroad who return definitively to Timor-Leste, they must demonstrate that they had a vehicle in their use and possession abroad before returning to Timor-For at least twelve months prior to importation, a passenger motor vehicle or light vehicle for mixed-use imported for personal use, that is, not for sale, rental, leasing or exchange, which is more than 5 years old, maybe imported

2. Pursuant to article 288 of the Customs Code, DL no. 14/2017, these vehicles cannot be loaned, pledged, rented, or transferred, whether for payment or free of charge, before a period of two n(2) has elapsed. ) years, counting from its introduction into consumption, and without the Timor-Leste Customs Authority having been previously informed
